I think this post speakes for most photographers. It’s one thing that we hate to do the most.
We will get a contact that a person wants to know if we are open on a certain date and more information and we provide that information. Manytimes for me anyway they will want to meet right away and usually it’s booked on that meeting. Papers signed and deposit made and that date is marked BOOKED.
Then sometimes they say they are really interested and will get back to us. I don’t know any photographer that has a system for those who haven’t decided yet. Then maybe a week goes by and we get a contact from another person and they meet us and book their wedding. The date they just booked wound up being the date the other couple wanted and they call back to meet and we have to tell them that someone took their date 4 days ago….
We hate having to give bad news because we are in the good news business.
The only way around that that I can think of is to pick out by looking at the photographers web sites and info they provide and weed it down to just a couple 3 or 4 and when you know your ready to actually ready to sign with someone then make contact and set up the meeting.
There are only so many weekends in a year and most folks book around a year ahead of time to ensure they get the venues and vendors they want for their day.
What prompted this post is I just had to deliver the bad news to a client that didn’t waited about 3 weeks until they got back to me and now their date is taken.
Thanks…Just trying to make us all HAPPY !
